The “Florida Prize in Contemporary Art,” Orlando Museum of Art’s signature exhibition, celebrates its 10th anniversary as the museum celebrates its centennial. The exhibition brings new recognition to the state’s most progressive artists. And for the first time in “Florida Prize” history, two Orlando-based artists, Njeri Kinuthia—who won the People’s Choice Award—and Boy Kong, are part of the 10-person lineup. Kinuthia’s works challenge the cultural norms that control women’s identity and sexuality through self-portraiture. Kong’s work is informed by Ukiyo-e, Surrealism, Graffiti art and animal folklore; his visual style juxtaposes these elements through color and rhythm. The exhibition runs through August 25.
