Winter Garden

Once a humble agricultural town by Lake Apopka, Winter Garden has transformed into a vibrant hub for business and community life. Pollution and harsh weather nearly devastated the area, but dedicated local efforts have revitalized its environment, economy, and historic charm, turning it into a model for urban renewal.

Today, Winter Garden is bustling with activity, particularly around its Main Street area. The historic Edgewater Hotel anchors the district as a quaint bed and breakfast surrounded by a variety of shops and restaurants. Nearby, two restored train depots add to the local heritage, housing museums and providing unique venues for community gatherings.

The heart of Winter Garden’s community is Centennial Plaza.

The revival of the Garden Theatre has brought arts and culture back to the forefront, enhancing the town’s appeal. In 1996, the charm and significance of the area were nationally recognized when both its commercial and residential districts were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The introduction of the West Orange Trail further boosted local commerce, as it drew visitors and new residents, who were quick to fill the once-empty storefronts with vibrant businesses.

Downtown Winter Garden now thrives with a mix of new construction that respects the town’s historic architectural style and brick-lined streets that recall its early days. The area is particularly lively on weekends, with sidewalks bustling with visitors and locals alike, drawn by the unique shops, delectable dining options, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Don’t skip Crooked Can Brewing Company, a Winter Garden staple. These brewmasters combine craftsmanship and science to create some truly tasty beers. Attached to Crooked Can is Plant Street Market, a great food hall with 20 vendors featuring natural, organic food and handmade products all inside of one building.

The clock tower is one of its signature features. The Plant Street Market food hall features 20 vendors that offer natural and organic food and handmade products.

The heart of the community is Centennial Plaza, complete with a clock tower and mosaic fountain. It’s a popular gathering place, offering live music on Friday nights and serving as a focal point for numerous festivals. Despite its growth and popularity, Winter Garden maintains a small-town feel, supported by a family-friendly demographic.

The local farmers market, a hit among residents and ranked among the top in the state, convenes every Saturday morning, showcasing local produce and crafts. This scene underscores the community’s commitment to sustainability and local entrepreneurship.

Winter Garden’s transformation is a testament to the determination of its residents to honor their past while forging a thriving future. The Main Street area, in particular, encapsulates this blend of historical preservation and modern livability, making it a destination worthy to call home.
