Entertainment: 2022 Orlando Holiday Concerts
10th Annual Violectric Holiday Show
Walt Disney Amphitheater at Lake Eola Park, Orlando
As a violinist and the founder of Violectric, Michelle Jones has shared stages with major acts such as The Killers, Katy Perry, and John Legend. But she says her acoustic and electric string ensemble’s annual free holiday concert at Lake Eola is “the one show I always look forward to attending. It’s like a homecoming.”
The Central Florida-based band’s visually stunning, high-energy set mashes up rock hits with holiday classics, so if you’ve ever wondered what Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” would sound like blended with “Jingle Bells,” this is the show to see.
Free and open to the public, the 90-minute live concert, presented by the City of Orlando Department of Families, Parks and Recreation, features holiday classics in an energetic holiday show.
Community-minded Violectric has again invited the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando to the pet-friendly party and encourages all to donate to the rescue organization. Opening the show will be student musicians from Edgewater High School in Orlando, who we are told will stick around to perform an encore with the band. Dec. 10. 7 p.m. Walt Disney Amphitheater at Lake Eola Park. violectric.net MC
A Voctave Christmas
Bach Festival Orchestra & VoctAve
Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Orlando
“There’s something about holiday music that goes directly to the heart,” says John V. Sinclair, artistic director and conductor of the Bach Festival Society in Winter Park.
The Bach Festival Orchestra is partnering with the 11-member a cappella ensemble Voctave, a group that usually goes it alone, for one of the Society’s four holiday-season performances.
The orchestra will accompany Voctave for a portion of the evening, with the vocal group also taking the stage alone to serenade the audience with their hauntingly beautiful a cappella talent.
The internationally known ensemble was founded in 2015 in Central Florida by Rollins College music professor Jamey Ray. Their videos have been viewed over 150 million times on YouTube, and they have performed with Grammy, Dove, and American Music Award winners.
The concert in Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is a homecoming for Voctave’s members, as it is the final stop of a three-week national holiday tour. Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m. For tickets, visit drphillipscenter.org MC
